The firm of Rossi Cox Vucinovich Flaskamp PC dates back to 1967, when John Rossi and James R. Morrisard, fresh out of law school, started their practice together in Denver, Colorado. John's dad (a locomotive engineer) and his grandfather (a section foreman) worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railway Company. So when John began representing railroaders under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA), it was a perfect match. He has since successfully handled well over a thousand cases as a FELA attorney.
Jim Cox’s career as a FELA attorney started in 1973, when he joined the firm. Since then, Jim became designated legal counsel for the BLET and has handled hundreds of cases over his 34 years representing injured railroad workers and their families. His work directly influenced how the courts apply the FELA in injury claims, expanding and protecting the rights of railroad workers.
In 1979, David Kiker joined our firm, bringing with him his UTU designation. When David retired in 2003 after a long and successful career, the UTU graciously acknowledged John Rossi's years of service to the railroad community by designating him as legal counsel, a designation he retains to this day.
When Doug Rossi started with the firm in 1991, he was a law student interested in diverse areas of the law. After being admitted to the Bar in 1992, Doug focused on researching and preparing cases for trial. Over time, he developed multiple areas of expertise in addition to FELA, including wills, estates and probate law.
As our reputation as an experienced FELA firm grew, Jim and John took a more active role in the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys (ARLA), a professional association of distinguished FELA plaintiffs’ attorneys. John was elected President of in 1992, and Jim followed in 1998. Both served with distinction and remain integral ARLA members.
Jim Vucinovich, an experienced FELA trial lawyer, joined us in 2004. Jim, a nationally-recognized FELA attorney with over 20 years of committed representation of injured railroad workers and their families, established our Washington state office, bringing his considerable talents to the Pacific Northwest. Like John, Jim is a UTU Union Designated Legal Counsel. He is also our President and Managing Partner.
In 2005, FELA attorney Tom Flaskamp associated with the firm and opened up our Minnesota office. Tom’s 17-year litigation career is dedicated to helping injured railroaders and their families reach the best possible result in their claims against the railroads.
